What are Core Web Vitals and which values are good?
Core Web Vitals are Google’s measures of user experience. Aim for an LCP under 2.5 seconds (loading speed), an INP under 200 milliseconds (responsiveness) and a CLS under 0.1 (visual stability). Good scores help both your ranking and your conversion.
The three Core Web Vitals
| Metric | Measures | Good |
|---|---|---|
| LCP | Loading speed of main content | < 2.5 s |
| INP | Responsiveness to interaction | < 200 ms |
| CLS | Visual stability (no shifting elements) | < 0.1 |
INP replaced the older FID metric in 2024.
Why it matters
Fast, stable sites keep visitors engaged and convert better. Google also uses Core Web Vitals as a ranking signal. Slow sites therefore lose twice: visitors and rankings.
How to improve them
- Optimise images (modern formats, correct dimensions).
- Limit heavy scripts and unnecessary plugins.
- Use good caching and a fast host.
- Reserve space for media to prevent layout shifts.
